i finally went to the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) for the first time. i don't know how i ever waited so long to go. they have a cool exhibit right now showcasing selected portraits for Vanity Fair for the last 100 years. pretty amazing place.

so as you all know, the new DSLR's on the market will have the ability to shoot HD video and store clips onto the compact flash cards. ::whoopdee frickin doo:: Zacuto, maker of handheld rigs for video cameras, is about to release the same version for the DSLR. this is ridiculous. nowadays where everyone is a "photographer", now every "photographer" is a "cinematographer".

my last minute halloween costume for 2008...just your standard issue nerd. still, everyone i know would keep asking me when i was going to change into my costume.

into the wild...right outside my door

a friggin hawk captured and killed a pigeon in the street in front of my apartment today. then this badass bird flew the dead pigeon up into the trees and started having it for lunch. it was like watching the discovery channel in real life. he was pretty much almost done eating by the time i got to snap these. for all you bird fans, my next door neighbors identified this as a Sharp-shinned hawk (aka the badass pigeon hunting hawk from Venice)

the world is just awesome.

what is it with people and their imaginary right to hog parking spaces? so we have street cleaning every week on our block...this means everyone has to park on one side of the street the night before. "certain vehicles" every week hog the middle of the curb space when there is clearly space for two cars...this extends the length of the whole damn block and forces people (like myself sometimes), to park hella far or to wake up early and move your car before the street cleaners come.

so i made these neat little cards thanking these people using a combination of MS Word, a paper cutter, the laminating machine at Kinko's, and an hour of my time well spent. the first batch went out tonight to a lucky few.

LA Brakeless grand re-opening

LAB opened up their new shop in Mar Vista this past weekend with a "Grand Re-Opening" party. the space is dope...they're at 12220 Venice Blvd so come by, bring your bike, and kick it.

this venue was AMAZING.  the stage looks out over the river running behind it in the canyon.  the view was incredible.  the air is clean, no smog.  Washington, you and your apples will be missed.

so i was at Turntable Lab with Shaun today and saw this goodie bag of records on the ground.  so i took this photo with my phone and wondered...is that what i'm gonna look like in the future?

this is what my living room looked like the other day...it was a combination of gear being used for different shoots.  i was lazy...and felt as long as i could get in and out of the front door the cleaning could wait a bit.  my roomie John has been out of the country, which is why it was able to look like this for a day.  but he gets back tonight.  damn...

so our next door neighbor Rob's son parks his vehicles in our garage too now. he's pimpin it on the Fisher Price tricycle with the spoiler/plastic rims and the Radio Flyer wagon. reminds me of my Big Wheel when i was a kid...and then i thought about what it was like to be young, which somehow led to Disneyland and how i haven't been there since i was 6. that's 21 years overdue. anyone feel like going?

Ne-Yo "Miss Independent" Music Video

Ne-Yo shot his latest video for the song Miss Independent in Santa Monica on Monday. it's an homage to the movie Boomerang and directed by Chris Robinson. YPM was there shooting coverage of the video for Def Jam and for Ne-Yo. basically, i'm the guy who's in the way of everyone while they're trying to make the actual video. but hey, got to kick it on set and chop it with Ne-Yo. he's a chill dude...2nd time i've been on a set with him, and of course he doesn't remember me. Gabrielle Union and Keri Hilson also made cameo appearances in the video. Marco was there helping me and shot some of the stills too.

what the hell Spain...

- Spain's Olympic basketball team posed for an advertisement prior to the Games which appears to show all its players slanting their eyes behind the image of a Chinese dragon, a move that could offend its Olympic hosts in Beijing. The ads appeared in the largest Spanish-language newspaper La Marca.

It's baffling that nobody involved in the picture from the photographers to the players even seemed to consider that this ad would be looked at negatively. Did it not occur to somebody that it might not be a good idea to mock an entire continent before the world's largest athletic competition that, by the way, happens to take place on that continent. Were they not aware of an invention called "the Internet" that allows pictures taken in Spain to be transmitted all over the world for the eyes of everyone? -

And now I'm reading that even with all this controversy, they still defend the photo...not even giving a simple apology saying it was done in poor taste.

I can't wait to watch your team lose. No bueno Spain...shame on you.

so i get the last minute call from Erick to shoot stills for the LA Rock the Bells show. the line-up is so dope. if it's coming to a town near you, be sure to check it out. here are some quick samples of some of the talent you will get to see...this will also count for Photo of the Week this week. this show was fuckin awesome.
